Did you know that the American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children should visit an orthodontist by the time they are 7-years-old? This time period allows Dr. Coombs to properly evaluate your child’s smile to determine if they need early treatment, also known as interceptive treatment. At this age, your child has mixed detention, or a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth. In this stage, early treatment can effectively intercept severe orthodontic issues and can even guide further development of your child’s incoming teeth into the correct position. Addressing and treating orthodontic issues early on prevents more extensive treatment down the road and helps prepare your child’s jaws and arches for correct growth.

Early Orthodontic Care for a Lifetime of Smiles

Interceptive treatment at Coombs Orthodontics can correct several orthodontic issues such as crowding or spacing, misaligned teeth and jaws, overbites, underbites, crossbites and open bites. If your child has any of these orthodontic issues, then early treatment is the perfect solution for them! While some children may need Phase 2 treatment as they grow, completing early treatment can significantly reduce their overall treatment time and can help them gain confidence in the meantime. Once your child finishes their Early Treatment, we will continue to observe their growth and development to determine if any additional treatment is necessary in the future.
